Subject: Anime Conventions

Hi,

I was wondering if you guys knew where I could be able to get information on how to reach someone doing a convention about bringing one to my home town of Fresno, CA. Please let me know if you know what I happen to be talking about.

Our Response

You'd need to get in touch with the organizers of the convention you were most interested in -- and unfortunately, we don't maintain a list of convention organizer contacts. At least not ones we're allowed to give out to the public. If we told you, we'd have to kill you.

In all seriousness, though, you're unlikely to succeed in "bringing a convention" to Fresno. Almost all anime conventions are started locally, and grow locally -- they don't tour around the US or change location from year to year (except perhaps to change the specific buildings being rented for the convention).

If you're interested in seeing an anime convention in Fresno, your best bet is to find a group of like-minded people and try to organize one yourself. All conventions start small and grow over time -- none of them, even Anime Expo, started out the huge draw that they were today. Be prepared for a challenge, though -- conventions are rarely successful unless they have a large local fan base to draw upon. I used to live near Fresno, and unless things have changed significantly, I don't think that fan base exists there. San Francisco or Oakland would be a much better base of operations, especially since they have major airports (a big help if you intend to attract visitors from outside the immediate area).

Hope that helps somewhat.
