The Chibi Project

The Chibi Project FAQ for Conventions

The Chibi Project's legend has spread across anime fandom. Ask ten random anime fans if they've been to this site and at least one of them is bound to have been here...and the others will surely want to check it out once they find out the crazy stuff we do.

However, in the last few years, the legend has extended beyond the Internet. The Chibi Project staff have been on panels at Anime Boston, AnimeIowa, Anime Expo, Animaritime, Bakuretsu Con, BAMCon, Tsubasacon, PortConMaine, or Nan Desu Kan...most of which are filled to capacity.

With the site's popularity, we're getting more inquiries from convention organizers about helping them out at their conventions. To explain what it is we do and answer some of the more common questions, we've created this special FAQ just for convention organizers!

  1. What is The Chibi Project?
  2. Can we book you to appear at our convention
  3. Even if you won't do The Chibi Project will you come to our con anyway?
  4. Do you have bios we can post on our guest page?
  5. I don't run a con. How can I get one near me to invite you as guests?
  6. How can we contact you?
  1. What is The Chibi Project?
The Chibi Project is a web site started in 1999 that conducts odd, yet humorous experiments on anime toys. The site was created and is maintained by PatrickD (creator of AnimeCons.com and FanCons.com) and a team of others.

  2. Can we book you to appear at our convention?
The Chibi Project ended its run at Anime Boston 2016. Although we still attend conventions, run events, and host panels, we have no plans to conduct any panels for The Chibi Project in the future.

  3. Even if you won't do The Chibi Project will you come to our con anyway?
We'd love to! There's just one problem...we're not rich. We simply cannot afford to go to all the conventions that would like to have us. However, don't write us off just yet! We might already be considering going to your convention anyway...and complimentary guest passes could seal the deal. If we weren't planning to attend your con, maybe we would if you ask us.

Unfortunately, the only way to guarantee that we'll be able to attend your convention (assuming the date isn't already booked) would be to offer to cover our travel and hotel costs. (For reference, PatrickD's closest major airports are Oakland (OAK), San Francisco (SFO), and Sacramento (SMF) and Jekka's nearest airport is Portland, Maine (PWM).) We realize that not every convention can afford to do this, so contact us and maybe we can work something out.

To be clear about our expectations, if we are invited to your convention we do not expect to have to pay for a convention badge. If you're also offering a hotel room, we do not want to have to share it with anyone who is not part of our group. We also like it when we're listed as guests. Nothing quite like seeing your name up in lights...so to speak. Sorry if this makes us sound like jerks, but we've had some bad experiences in the past that we don't want to go through again.

  4. Do you have bios we can post on our guest page?
Sure! Take the bios for PatrickD or Jekka from FanCons.com. Please don't announce us as guests (or even "potential guests") until we have agreed to attend.

  5. I don't run a con. How can I get one near me to invite you as guests?
Contact your local convention's organizers and tell them you want us at their convention. Send them our URL in e-mail. Post your request in their forum and on their Facebook pages. Get your friends to help drum up support too. (To find a con near you, check FanCons.com.)

  6. How can we contact you?
